After 4 years, TX Theta was proud to bring back the Balanced Man Banquet. This annual event had been postponed due to the pandemic. This annual event seeks to award young freshmen males that embody the characteristics of a balanced man and the future of St. Mary’s University. We were happy to bring this event back, award $2000 in scholarships, and dedicate the event to raising awareness for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
Since the event hadn’t been done in a while the chapter knew that they had to come back with force. Over seventy people came out to the event including chapter counselor Greg Valdez, Alumni Volunteer Corporation Secretary Mark Maloney, and longtime SigEp Volunteer Dr. Vega. Alumni efforts were key in fundraising for the event, AVC Secretary Mark Maloney was pleased to see the chapter showcase its values and showcase what SigEp is all about.
“TX Theta put on an amazing evening where our values, with a healthy dash of servant leadership bringing them to life, were front and center,” Maloney said.
The banquet was an immense success. Many attendees remarked that the speakers, composed entirely of the executive board, were a hit and the applicants were all stunning with many accolades ranging from varsity athletes to drum majors, students in the top 5% of their classes, outstanding volunteers, and resumes a mile long.
This year’s winners were Johnathan Flores $1000, Esteban Serrano $500, and Ashlin Padilla $500. The money for the Danny
Perea Balanced Man Scholarship was entirely fundraised with the assistance of the AVC board. It was not the only donation to come from the event.
As previously mentioned this event was dedicated to raising awareness about Domestic Violence
and Sexual Assault. The chapter, as well as the scholarship winners, will be completing Domestic Violence prevention training and are fundraising from local individuals to make a donation to a local organization.
TX Theta hopes that this event can continue for years to come. That more scholarships, fundraising, and memories can be made at what is sure to be an event that only grows in scale as the chapter does as well.
